I have been waiting for a time when Google was going to add some additional templates to the tired selection they currently offered. I am happy to report that they have gone one step better, Blogger in Draft is here and I love it!

Dr. Ileane weighs in on her diagnosis:

I found this fascinating quote today:

I’m sure by now you’ve heard about the improvements happening for Blogger blogs. Even WordPress users can feel the excitement that’s been generated by the introduction of Blogger’s new Template Designer. This short video clip from Blogger in Draft has the right music to get you pumped!Ms. Ileane, Ms. Ileane’s Blog, Mar 2010

You should read the whole article.

The patient, (a manufactured home dealership), was in need of new prospects, a common enough problem nowadays, but in this case, a life or death situation. They needed to do something fast or their 37 year-old business would die.

Their major complaint: sleepless nights, sweating, and a constant pain in the pit of the stomach. A lack of marketing expertise, no online presense, very little marketing money to spend, and a feeling of being left behind, was taking it’s toll.

The Country Web Doctor was consulted, and a thorough examination of the business was conducted – on site, (this web doc makes house calls!). The diagnosis, blogosidosis, an illness caused by the lack of regular injections of social media. The patient was declared curable. A treatment plan outlined.

A blog was created with Google Blogger, the patient was educated in methods of self-treatment, (where to get content ideas, how to podcast and upload videos, what kinds of gadgets would be useful, how to guest post, commenting, writing keyword loaded posts, etc). A plan of action was instituted to develop an online strategy for a minimum of expense.

Regular follow up with the Country Web Doctor was scheduled and the prognosis was excellent.

Just two weeks later the patient relapsed and is again experiencing some of the same symptoms as before. What happened?

To Be Continued

Funny, I was talking about buzz just the other day, now today the Internet is full of Google Buzz, another social media app that’s kind of a cross between Twitter and Facebook. Who, by the way, are taking their best shots at Google’s newest app.

And why would Yahoo and Facebook be happy about having their largest rival enter the social media arena? They both have had their shot at cornering the market and I would have to believe that Google will prevail where others did not.

As a blogger who threw in everything he owned to Google years ago, I have to say that I welcome them into the social media world of network marketing and making connections. I have never been let down by Google and in my experience it’s only the ones who want to take those sneaky little shortcuts that shun Google.

Sure, they make a ton of money, that’s the American way! But they give as good as they get and way more. Where else can you get all the features you need to run a small to medium sized company for $50./yr. You can with Google Apps, spam free Gmail, Free blogs, Groups, Documents, YouTube, Calendar, and a whole lot more.

Before you call me a shill for Google I will tell you I have my share of WordPress blogs, even a Tumblr blog, I really only use Blogger when I want to implement Adsense, but Gmail is my friend and if I can connect with more people through a potential social media giant such as Google, man I’m all over it. How about you?

We’ve all been hearing the buzz about social media, blogging, Twitter, Facebook, and a host of others. How it can humanize a business, separate yourself from the crowd, build trust and create authority, build your own community around your product, service and brand, and a whole lot more.

Where once a blog was the tool of big business with large marketing departments, it is now a simple process and available to everyman, easy as clicking a mouse!

So what does my experiment consist of? Where a small group of bloggers, all experts in their fields, undertake the task of bringing a whole town into “today’s” Internet and document the results for humanity. Any business in my town, or any town for that matter, that wants to put forth a little effort, has at their fingertips (via this blog), all the free information available to them and can use it to set themselves apart.

The Country Web Doctor (me) and my blog team is available to you 24/7, 365 days a year. You cant get much better support than that. Just ask a question via a comment on any post within this blog and chances are you will be bombarded with answers and even more useful information than you asked for. Take what you want, just let us know how it worked for you!

The big companies are getting it. Millions of dollars are made with corporate blogs that feature promotions that really connect with both current customers and prospective ones. In small town America we have yet to convince the small business owner that this stuff ain’t just for the big city folks. People around here say sure, the big guns like Dell and IBM can do it but why should we? Nobody has time to deal with this social media thing, you have to be an expert at it or else pay to have it done and that costs too much and I already know everybody worth knowing in this town anyway!

Well, maybe every business in small town in America doesn’t need it. A place like Tenney, Minnesota for example, with a population of 6! Everyone else…

So, here we take the hook, line and sinker approach to helping small business. Instead of trying to sell a business on the need for a blog or bore the owner to tears with long winded speeches about how it will help them gain new prospects, we decided to take a more proactive approach – by showing them.

We focus on a business that we think will benefit by having an online presence that will really work for their business model, we build it and then present it to them. Risky, you say, well nothing ever gets done by sitting around and talking about it. And something happens to people when they see these beautiful blogs with their company’s name all over them! They call this preventive medicine in the medical community.

Many thanks to a talented guy, Adrian Hughes at the PC Doctor for the cartoon image.
