A large chunk of death is due to fear after a snake bite.This is due to shock following fear.Most of the bites are from non-poisonous snakes.Snakes are there for ecological balance.They are friend of farmer in the sense that they protect his grains from rats by preying on them.They bite out of fear only.Otherwise they are on their way.But the look at them is shivering , a chill travels in the spine and that kills the victim.
Personally I am afraid of them.Snakes are either poisonous or non-poisonous .Poisonous are again divided into neurotoxic which attack the nervous system  or haemotoxic which cause disturbance in blood coagulation system. But pure neurotoxic and pure haemotoxic does not occur.Mostly they remain mixed but one component may be in excess to other.
The poison occurs in the saliva of snakes  primarily to kill or paralyze the prey to make swallowing easier.
Symptoms  of of poisoning appears depending on the amount of toxin liberated to the blood stream.That in tern depends on the type of fang the snake  has and other barriers to injection of venom like clothing present.
Immediate symptoms include sensation in body, numbness and bleeding from the site of bite,reeling of head,weakness,frothing ,difficulty in respiration and loss of consciouness.If less of neurotoxin present then late symptoms like swelling of the part,bleeding ,blood in urine,kidney failure and respiratory problems will appear.
First-aid in form of immobility of the part,washing of the part,sucking of venom by person without having mouth injury,taking T.Toxoid and antibiotics are important.Application of a tight bandage above a joint nearer to the bite called a tourniquet is to done which is to be relaxed in each 10 minutes to allow blood flow to the part below the tourniquet  till patient reaches a hospital.
Treatment should commence at once when patient reaches a hospital.A blood sample should be collected for clot retraction test.Here the killed snake if was possible is to be produced for identification of the poisonous nature.
Since the venom contains a mixture of different types of toxins a polyvalent anti-venom is administered after due sensitivity testing and according to the advice of treating physician.
A patients not in so late condition usually recovers.

Here one paradox in relation to dog bite is that there dog is not to be killed immediately and here snake is to be killed and produced for identification if at all possible.

At last there is some hope that monsoon will arrive in this part of world.Mercury is a little in the comfort zone in this dawn of longest day in Northern hemisphere.So I started my walk a little earlier,to be precise at 4 AM to avoid day light coming.As I approached towards the seashore the view inside the Bay of Bengal was somewhat likened to the number of lightened flats by the ships waiting for their turn to enter the Paradip Port.I could able to count about twenty ships.But I had learnt that there were about 50 ships in waiting.In the recent past this port is bustling with activity, thanks to the deepest draft here in the eastern coast of India.
En route I noticed much more lightning activity inside the Bay of Bengal.Lightning is a high voltage electric current ,occurs due to the potential difference between clouds or between cloud and earth.This could prove fatal if faced.This high voltage current may cause instant death from cardiac arrest or may cause a flash burn with  and the consequences .
To avoid outdoor during lightning activity is the best.But if already in outdoors run for shelter in a nearby house.Never stand below a tree , tall structures or electric poles.If inside a car one can stay safe there as ” electric field inside a sphere is zero”  and does not cause harm as per “Gauss” law .This update was given to me some years back by my elder son and reiterated by the younger.If inside house prefer to sit on non conductors such as wooden furniture.Should not go near the open doors or windows and never if wearing metal jeweleries.Unplugging electrical appliances and disconnecting cables are good preventing measures to protect those from damage.
AS a lightning victim suffers from sudden cardiac arrest cardio-pulmonary resuscitative measures are to be started then and there and be shifted to a near by hospital later.Flash burn victims are to be shifted to a hospital and be managed there.

As usual I started my morning walk at 4.45 AM setting my PC to download some recent updates for PcLinux 2009.1.I headed towards the seashore and the moon was above the horizon.I wondered about life and death.How can it definitely be defined ? Somebody ,of course human is said to be living when his heart continues to beat,able to take respiration,moves his limbs,talks and responds etc.But vital among them are activity of heart,respiration and brain function.If brain does not function and still heart and respiration are there we call it a coma stage but not death.In addition to it if voluntary respiration stops but maintained mechanically and heart continues to beat still the person is not dead.And after that if heart stops we declare him dead.Again we say the person is clinically dead because cells live longer .That is the reason how transplant of organs possible.There is one state called suspended animation mostly a YOGIC activity ,described in India, where the person does not have any of the above described three parameters to think somebody is living. So the dilemma is how to say definitely some body is dead and basing on which parameters? It is said that electroencephalography (EEG)should not show any electrical activity of brain to be declared as dead.That not feasible everywhere.Again even with that cells continue to live about 6 hours and if organs are preserved the longevity of cells increases even up to 24 hours and longer.So what is death and life ? It is something seen macroscopically and also can be seen microscopically.Here the question is what caused the life to cease in the macroscopic form and maintained in the microscopic form for some time, to cease totally later?
Is it that the respiration i.e. oxygen in air is important or the the functioning of heart and brain?What caused these parameters to cease functioning properly? What regulates these? We know regular electrical activity is going in side body for proper functioning of different parts and organs.But who regulates it.Obviously many will answer it to be brain.But we can not declare death if there no brain activity but heart and lungs functioning and what about above described suspended animation.
In India YOGIS said something PRANAMAYA SHARIRA,Meaning life filling everywhere in the body.and that is true I think.The regulator center for these the electrical or electromagnetic activity resides somewhere say in brain the master of body.Now can we call it SOUL ? If so is it a group of cells or something else which has a free access to out side and again right to return to body ? Can it be an electromagnetic force as we give some imaginative name, The Soul to it.Is it possible that there is some mega center somewhere else, as we are a part of this unimaginable Universe and name it GOD? And is it that the soul the brain center for life is pre-timed for destruction in individual cases? But can be boosted to some extended time with healthy habits? And is it that an electromagnetic force The Soul is withdrawn from some wearing body after a certain time period and put somewhere else to make that live before birth only to be withdrawn again later?
This is to some extent mixture of science and spirituality.And some thing described in” The GITA “in India.
So many questions, is not it? Again life and death remained mysterious. unthinkable and unsolvable for me by the time I returned home.My download of updates for PcLinux was still not complete and I started writing this thought.
